- This is an exploration as to how the two most prestigious schools in international relations in Mexico are training their students now days. The goal of the study is to find out the dominant perspectives in International relations transmitted to the future decision makers in the area (both at the level of policy making and at that of academic research) in Mexico. This within a context of a tradition of independent and creative foreign policy in Mexico that has been changing into a more subordinate position taking regarding its relation with the United States. I propose to examine this training by looking at the curricula these students have to accomplish, the kind of obligatory readings they have and the general orientation of the teachers they meet. My conclusion is that this training has changed since the 1970s to adapt to the present priorities established by a ruling group whose general orientation is extremely dependent on the dominant American foreign policy views, applying a realpolitik approach that is far apart from the general foreign policy principles and traditions followed by Mexico up to the beginning of the neoliberal period.
