  • Approximate Optimal Periodogram Smoothing for Cepstrum Estimation using a Penalty Term
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the EUSIPCO, European Signal Processing Conference 2010. - 2076-1465. ; , s. 363-367
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The cepstrum of a random process is useful in many applications. The cepstrum is usually estimated from the periodogram. To reduce the mean square error (MSE) of the estimator, the periodogram may be smoothed with a kernel function. We present an explicit expression for a kernel function which is approximatively MSE optimal for cepstrum estimation. A penalty term has to be added to the minimization problem, but we demonstrate how the weighting of the penalty term can be chosen. The performance of the estimator is evaluated on simulated processes. Since the MSE optimal smoothing kernel depends on the true covariance function, we give an example of a simple data driven method.

  • Wireless Positioning using Ellipsoidal Constraints
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Signal Processing Conference (EUSIPCO), 2012 Proceedings of the 20th European. - 2219-5491 .- 2076-1465. - 9781467310680 ; , s. 190-194
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Indoor location-based positioning systems have attracted notable interest during recent years for a wide range of personal and commercial applications. As is well known, the GPS systems does not allow for accurate positioning indoors, resulting in the development of various forms of indoor positioning techniques, mostly being based on radio frequency measurements. In this paper, we examine a novel way to reduce the positioning error by using the notion of separating ellipsoids in the context of received signal strength (RSS) fingerprinting. To avoid excessive computational complexity, the algorithmis paired with the A* algorithm, exploiting mapping information of the building of interest, to take into account obstacles such as walls. The proposed algorithm is evaluated on RSS measurements made in a shopping mall, and found to offer an improved positioning accuracy as compared to the Gaussian kernel approach.

  • Array Calibration using Array Response Interpolation and Parametric Modeling
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Proc. European Signal Processing Conference 2015 (EUSIPCO 2015). - 2076-1465. - 9780992862633 ; , s. 1346-1350
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • High-performance array applications often require an accurate array response model. A common way to achieve this is by array calibration which involves measuring the response for a finite number of given source directions and employing interpolation. This paper considers the array calibration problem by combing interpolation techniques and parametric modeling. The idea is to model the array response as a product of a mutual coupling matrix, an ideal array response vector (derived from the geometry of antenna array) and an angle-dependent correction vector. Since the major effects are captured by the physical model and the mutual coupling matrix, the correction vector will be a smoother function of angle as compared to direct interpolation of the measured array response. In numerical experiments of a real antenna array, the method is found to improve the performance of the array calibration significantly.
