  • Specific heat of solids at high pressures from simultaneous measurements of thermal conductivity and diffusivity
  • 1972
  • Ingår i: High Temperatures-High Pressures. - 0018-1544 .- 1472-3441. ; 4:1, s. 101-109
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A method of determining the specific heat of solids at high pressures, from simultaneous measurements of thermal conductivity and diffusivity in a cylindrical geometry, is described. Results are reported for polytetrafluoroethylene (Teflon) in the range 0-30 kbar at 300 K. With increasing pressure both the thermal conductivity and diffusivity increase strongly and approximately linearly, while the specific heat decreases, most strongly at low pressures.

  • Thermal conductivity of orientationally-disordered crystals under high pressure
  • 1983
  • Ingår i: Thermal conductivity 17. - New York : Plenum Publishing. - 0306411776 ; , s. 527-536
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The transient hot-wire method was used to study the effects of temperature and pressure on the thermal conductivity, λ, of several molecular substances showing varying degrees of disorder in molecular orientation. Molecular solids both in the plastic and normal crystal state were investigated as well as a clathrate hydrate. The measurements were made in the temperature range 100 - 450 K and at pressures up to 2.5 GPa. The conductivity results for the different types of crystal studied are discussed in terms of the simple Debye formula. We discuss the unusual glass-like behaviour of λ(T) for the clathrate hydrate in some detail.

  • Thermal conductivity of solids under pressure by the transient hot wire method
  • 1976
  • Ingår i: Review of Scientific Instruments. - : American Institute of Physics (AIP). - 0034-6748 .- 1089-7623. ; 47:2, s. 205-209
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • An electronic circuit has been constructed which delivers constant power to a nickel wire also functioning as a resistance thermometer. The temperature increase versus time, t, is linear in ln t, and the coefficient of slope directly yields the thermal conductivity of the medium surrounding the wire. Systematic errors due to finite time, wire length, and lateral extension of the medium and due to plastic deformation of the wire are analyzed. Temperatures are sampled automatically, and the digital data are reduced by means of an on-line desk calculator. The thermal conductivities of AgCl and polytetrafluoroethylene have been measured up to 10 kilobar.

  • Thermal conductivity of Teflon at high pressures
  • 1975
  • Ingår i: High Temperatures-High Pressures. - 0018-1544 .- 1472-3441. ; 7:5, s. 551-553
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The thermal conductivity of different qualities of polytetrafluoroethylene, in the form of cylindrical specimens, was measured up to 3 GPa at room temperature by a steady-state method. A transient hot-wire method was also employed at pressures up to 1 GPa. With the exception of a recent investigation, reasonable agreement with previous work was obtained.

  • Thermal resistivity of ice Ih near the melting point
  • 1980
  • Ingår i: Journal of Physics C: Solid State Physics. - : Institute of Physics Publishing (IOPP). - 0022-3719 .- 1747-3802. ; 13:4, s. L73-L76
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The thermal resistivity r(T) of ice Ih has been re-measured from 120K to as close as practicable to melting. Measurements were made under isobaric conditions at a pressure of 0.07 GPa, and corrected to isochoric conditions. The resultant deviation from the simple theoretical prediction, r/T=constant, has been plausibly accounted for by interaction between optic and acoustic phonons. Thermal resistivity arising from the presence of point defects has been shown to be of negligible importance.

  • Learning about the history of landscape use for the future : consequences for ecological and social systems in Swedish Bergslagen
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Ambio. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0044-7447 .- 1654-7209. ; 42:2, s. 146-159
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Barriers and bridges to implement policies about sustainable development and sustainability commonly depend on the past development of social-ecological systems. Production of metals required integration of use of ore, streams for energy, and wood for bioenergy and construction, as well as of multiple societal actors. Focusing on the Swedish Bergslagen region as a case study we (1) describe the phases of natural resource use triggered by metallurgy, (2) the location and spatial extent of 22 definitions of Bergslagen divided into four zones as a proxy of cumulative pressure on landscapes, and (3) analyze the consequences for natural capital and society. We found clear gradients in industrial activity, stream alteration, and amount of natural forest from the core to the periphery of Bergslagen. Additionally, the legacy of top-down governance is linked to today's poorly diversified business sector and thus municipal vulnerability. Comparing the Bergslagen case study with other similar regions in Russia and Germany, we discuss the usefulness of multiple case studies.

  • Fågelbacken och trattbägarsamhället : samhällsorganisation och rituella samlingsplatser vid övergången till en bofats tillvaro i östra Mellansverige
  • 1995
  • Ingår i: Tor. - Uppsala : Tor. - 0495-8772. ; 27, s. 47-132
  • Tidskriftsartikel (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • A discussion of the TRB cultural landscape and form of society is attempted on the basis of the excavation of an Early Neolithic Funnel-beaker settlement site at Fågelbacken in eastern central Sweden. The site, situated on top of an esker, is characterized by finds of TRB pottery, quartz and flint debitage, pits with charred human bones, a cultbuilding and D-shaped huts. As a result of intra-site spatial analysis, ceramic analysis and a discussion of the site features, it is suggested that Fågelbacken should be interpreted not only as a coastal hunting site but also as a repeatedly visited, communal ritual site. A spatial analysis of thin-butted axes in the area surrounding the site, suggests that it is probably one of a whole series of similar, evenly spaced, ritual sites in the area. A sociocultural interpretation of Funnel-beaker huts and houses, together with an analysis of the distribution of stray finds of TRB type in the research area, further suggests that coastal sites like Fågelbacken are structurally related to groups of swidden-agriculture farmsteads and hunting stations in the interior.

  • Opportunities in lignin based carbon fibre
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: NWBC 2015. - Espoo : VTT. - 9789513883539 ; , s. 244-251
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Innventia AB's LignoBoost process enables the extraction of high purity lignin efficiently from the black liquor in kraft mills. A stream of black liquor is taken from the evaporation plant and the lignin is precipitated by acidification and filtered. The filter cake is redispersed and acidified and the resulting slurry is filtered and washed. High purity lignin can be produced at several scales, namely 10g, 1kg, 10kg and over 1,000kg. Innventia has invested significantly to demonstrate the potential of lignin as a viable feedstock for carbon fibre manufacture. Initially, the fibre melt spinning performance of the lignin is assessed using single filament melt extrusion and then melt spinning is performed at the multifilament scale, where fine fibres can be produced for conversion to carbon fibre. Oxidative thermostabilisation of the lignin fibres is carried out so that carbonisation can proceed. The effects of thermal treatment programmes and tensioning have been studied by using either thermomechanical analysis or by using test equipment specially designed to monitor carbonisation profiles with either stress or strain control. In addition, continuous processes for the conversion of lignin fibre to carbon fibre are being developed.

  • Chronic allopregnanolone elevation cause altered plaque production in Swe/PS1 mice
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Abstract. We have previously shown that chronic elevation of the neurosteroid allopregnanolone caused learning dysfunction and increased levels of soluble Aβ in the Swe/PS1 mouse model. The mechanism behind these findings is however unknown. We further investigated the brain tissue of these mice to identify any effects on congophilic plaque burden, Aβ42-specific plaque burden and synaptic function. We found a significant reduction in the average size of the congophilic core of neuritic plaques after chronic allopregnanolone treatment compared to vehicle. This seems to be caused by an altered plaque production, leading to more abundant, but smaller neuritic plaques. We may also have detected a decrease in the amount of synaptophysin, and thus synaptic function among the same mice. However, the long interval between the end of treatment and tissue collection possibly allowed time for recovery and only minor differences were noted. We found that the natural relationship between levels of insoluble Aβ, congophilic and Aβ42-specific plaque load was disrupted after chronically elevated allopregnanolone levels. Furthermore, the levels of syn-aptophysin and insoluble Aβ became more important in the relationship to learning and memory. The causality of these factors is still unknown and further studies are required to fully understand the effect of neurosteroids on AD development.

  • Multi-objective environmental management in constructed wetlands
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Environmental Monitoring & Assessment. - 0167-6369 .- 1573-2959. ; 90:1-3, s. 171-185
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We examined multi-objective environmental management as applied to pursuing concurrent goals of water treatment, biodiversity and promotion of recreation in constructed wetlands. A case study of a wetland established to treat landfill leachate, increase biodiversity, and promote recreation was evaluated. The study showed that attempts to combine pollution management with activities promoting biodiversity or recreation are problematic in constructed wetlands. This could be because the typical single-objective focus of scientific research leads to contradictions when planning, implementing and assessing the multi-objective use of wetlands. In the specific case of wetland filters for landfill leachate treatment, biodiversity, and recreation, there is a need for further research that meet practical needs to secure positive outcomes.
