  • Identification and use of personalized genomic markers for monitoring circulating tumor DNA
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Methods in Molecular Biology. - New York, NY : Springer New York. - 1064-3745. ; 1768, s. 303-322
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Digital PCR techniques are ideally suited for accurately quantifying trace amounts of target DNA sequences, such as tumor-derived mutant DNA that is present in the blood circulation of patients with cancer. Here, we describe an approach marrying low-coverage whole-genome sequencing of tumor tissues, to enumerate chromosomal rearrangement breakpoints, together with droplet digital PCR (ddPCR)-based personalized rearrangement assays to cost-effectively monitor circulating tumor DNA levels at multiple time-points during the clinical course. The method is generally applicable to essentially any cancer patient, as all cancers harbor unstable genomes, and may have uses for measuring minimal residual disease, response to therapy, and early detection of metastasis.

  • Parenting and Positive Adjustment for Adolescents in Nine Countries : Novel Approaches and Findings from Europe, Asia, Africa and America
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Well-Being of Youth and Emerging Adults across Cultures. - Cham : Springer International Publishing. - 9783319683621 - 9783319683638 ; , s. 235-248
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This chapter describes the theoretical background, methodology, and select empirical findings from the Parenting Across Cultures project, a longitudinal study of mothers, fathers, and youth in nine countries (China, Colombia, Italy, Jordan, Kenya, Philippines, Sweden, Thailand, and United States). The design of the study is well suited to addressing questions regarding within-family, between-family within-country, and between-country predictors of youth outcomes. Positive development may be characterized in unique ways in different countries, but adjustment outcomes such as social competence, prosocial behavior, and academic achievement also share features and parenting predictors in different countries. Combining emic (originating within a culture) and etic (originating outside a culture) approaches, operationalizing culture, and handling measurement invariance are challenges of international research. Understanding culturally specific and generalizable features of positive youth development as well as how youth are socialized in ways to promote positive adjustment are advantages of comparative international research.

  • Surface functionalized magnetic nanoparticles for targeted cancer therapy and diagnosis
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Metal Nanoparticles for Drug Delivery and Diagnostic Applications. - : Elsevier Inc.. ; , s. 215-236
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In the last few decades, magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) have had significant interest and became more remarkable in the field of oncology. MNPs has been proven to be the most suitable and promising nanomaterials for tumor targeting. This is mainly due to its intrinsic magnetic property which makes them characteristic agents to inducing magnetic hyperthermia and magnetic resonance imaging. The MNPs have usually been employed for cancer imaging through a passive approach. The modern techniques have enabled multimodal imaging, drug delivery, and specific cells targeting by MNPs. To synthesize more extravagant MNPs, the design criteria considerations, such as core metal, hydrodynamic size, shape, surface coating, and molecular functionalization, become very essential. In this chapter, the design parameters of MNPs including surface functionalization and physiochemical properties are summarized to overcome biological barriers. Furthermore, the chemistry of MNPs surface modification is discussed in detail to describe its nature and binding type.
