  • À propos de l’écriture catholicisante dans l’oeuvre de Strindberg – Quelques réflexions sur l’emprunt culturel.
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Revue Romane. - Amsterdam / Philadelphia : John Benjamins Publishing Company. - 0035-3906 .- 1600-0811. ; 48:1, s. 131-146
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • After his years of exile in France, Strindberg displayed a renewed interest in theatre and demonstrated a genuine sympathy towards the Catholic religion  which he had come to know through fin de siècle French literature. In adopting an Catholicising writing, Strindberg assimilated these cultural borrowings, resemanticizing them in accordance with his personal past and social context. This paper takes as its starting point a hermeneutic reflection upon the value of cultural transfers, drawing on concepts provided by imagology and the notion of cultural transfers developed by Bourdieu and Espagne. Trough his practice of rewriting, Strindberg displays his adherence to several national cultural spaces. In this paper, I will shed light on Strindberg’s writing’s hybrid nature and its innovative strength.

  • Camino, Base y Manera en español y sueco : Un estudio contrastivo
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Revue Romane. - : John Benjamins Publishing Company. - 0035-3906 .- 1600-0811. ; 48:1, s. 1-31
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study surveys how Spanish and Swedish speakers convey information about Motion. The point of departure is the typological description about satellite-framed languages (SFL) and verb-framed languages (VFL) which claims that these language groups differ in how they codify Path and Manner. The data consist of 16 oral narratives in Swedish (SFL) and 16 in Spanish (VFL). Based on the assumption that the lexicalization patterns for motion encoding module how speakers of different languages convey information in discourse (Talmy, 2000; Slobin, 1996a), we hypothesize that the Swedes will offer a wider range of descriptions concerning Manner and Path than the Spanish speakers, whereas the latter group will exhibit high-grained descriptions about the Ground or settings where the action takes place. The first hypothesis is confirmed, the second is partially rejected: both groups offer detailed Ground descriptions, though the Swedes express to a greater extent the final destination of motion events. Even more, our findings suggest that the encoding of end states of motion is highly tied to the use of various satellites, which can be combined both with verbs that express a direction and with verbs which do not involve such information. The characteristic syntactic patterns found in satellite-framed languages for information encoding plus the existence of schematic constructions in Swedish might be an explanation for these results.

  • Apposition détachée ou liée ? : Etude contrastive français-suédois sur des combinaisons de Npr et de Nc
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Revue Romane. - : John Benjamins Publishing Company. - 0035-3906 .- 1600-0811. ; 48:2, s. 254-283
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Loose or close apposition? Contrastive French-Swedish study on the combinations of Npr (Proper Name) and Nc (Common Name)The article compares the use of the so called close apposition (e.g. le Premier ministre israélien Benjamin Netanyahou) with that of the two types of loose apposition (le Premier ministre israélien, Benjamin Netanyahou and Benjamin Netanyahou, le Premier ministre israélien) in a corpus consisting of French and Swedish newspaper articles. It is suggested that, in many cases, rather than being a result of any particular information structure, the choice of apposition depends to a large extent on the form of the expansion in the common noun. There is a clear difference in the use of the close and loose types between French and Swedish texts. In French, the loose appositions are more common. In Swedish, the close apposition is the most frequent construction. This is due to the fact that, prototypically, the expansion of the French noun phrase is positioned after its head, whereas in Swedish, it is normally positioned before its head.

  • Les composés français VN : aspects sémantiques
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Revue Romane. - Amsterdam/Philadelphia : John Benjamins Publishing Company. - 0035-3906 .- 1600-0811. ; 46:1, s. 69-88
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study addresses the semantics of French VN compounds within a lexeme-based and lexicalistic approach to morphology. The N constituent can correspond to one of the two semantic macroroles: PATIENT (ouvreboîte) or ACTOR (croque-monsieur). In addition, there is a special type of unproductive VN compound in which the N is a hyperonym of the hyponym compound (gratte-boësse). The study confirms that there are no strict constraints on the V and the N: the four Aktionsarten, as well as unaccusative and inergative Vs, are accepted. Moreover, it shows that the compounds are formed by different semantic patterns: Agent/Experiencer, Instrument, Locative, Causative, Event and Patient/Theme. The Agent/Experiencer and Instrument patterns in which the N is a PATIENT are the most productive ones.

  • Factividade e modo verbal
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Revue Romane. - : John Benjamins Publishing Company. - 0035-3906 .- 1600-0811. ; 49:1, s. 52-67
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The traditional way of explaining the subjunctive mood in Portuguese is utterly related to the distinction made between reality and non-reality. That is, while the indicative mood has been explained in terms of reality, the subjunctive has been the mood of non-reality. Although this explanation covers many occurrences of the subjunctive mood, it is also recognized that it fails to explain the use of the subjunctive mood in factive contexts. This being so, the present study aims at explaining the variation between the indicative and subjunctive mood in factive contexts from a Cognitive Grammar perspective. The hypothesis put forward is that the mood variation can be explained in terms of dominion and control. Thus, it is claimed that the subjunctive mood in factive contexts can be explained by a reduced degree of active control, this being consistent with an event that is located outside the conceptualizer’s dominion of effective control. On the other hand, the indicative mood occurs in contexts of epistemic control that are located inside the conceptualizer’s epistemic dominion. An additional analysis of the subjunctive mood in other grammatical contexts corroborates the initial claim.

  • O modo verbal em expressões impessoais com o verbo ser
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Revue Romane. - : John Benjamins Publishing Company. - 0035-3906 .- 1600-0811. ; 47:1, s. 76-97
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The subjunctive mood has frequently been explained in terms of unreality, presupposition, non-assertion and the distinction between new and old information. Although these explanations offer a partial account of the semantics of this mood, it is shown that many occurrences of the subjunctive mood remain unexplained. This being so, the present paper aims at explaining the indicative and subjunctive mood in impersonal expressions with the verb ser from a Cognitive Grammar perspective of linguistic analysis. The analysis shows that the variation between the indicative and subjunctive mood in this grammatical context can be explained in terms of dominion and control. An extension of the analysis further shows that it may account for the occurrence of the subjunctive mood in other grammatical contexts.

  • Da un metagrido a un grido. Un esempio di riscrittura nell'opera di Erri De Luca
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Revue Romane. - 0035-3906. ; 47:1, s. 131-143
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The article focuses on a case of rewriting of a short episode in the narrative of Erri De Luca. It is all about a cry: in 1930, in the harbour of Naples, an anonymous woman who is watching the departure of a ship suddenly cries out the name of Salvatore, probably her son being on the ship to emigrate to America. This episode, narrated in the tale “Udito: un grido” first published 1993, returns with striking lexical similarities in the drama L’Ultimo viaggio di Sindbad, 2003. Despite the similarities, one can not consider the second occurrence as a mere copy of the first, because of subtle variations on many levels: change of genre, narrator and perspective give the second occurrence of the cry episode a wider significance, strongly emphazising orality and actualizing a mythical dimension.

  • L’emploi du gérondif et de la construction V1 och V2 dans l’incise: Étude contrastive français-suédois
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Revue Romane. - : John Benjamins Publishing Company. - 0035-3906. ; 46:1, s. 1-41
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Abstract in UndeterminedThe aim of this study is to compare the syntax of French and Swedish inserted (parenthetical) clauses appearing after a direct quotation. More specifically, the study explores the relationship between the French gérondif and the Swedish “V1 och V2” construction in contexts such as dit-elle en souriant / sa hon och log. The analysis is based on a translation corpus, comprising French and Swedish literary texts, and their translations into Swedish and French, respectively. It is argued that the function and use of these constructions are related to the typological profiles of the two languages, French being an exocentric language which considers the different aspects of a communicative situation according to their importance (hierarchic information structure), and Swedish being an endocentric language which divides the communicative situation into successive actions (linear information structure).
