    • Sweden, a literary model in the process of autonomy? The import issues of French language literature in Sweden in XXI centuryThis study offers an in-depth analysis of the reception in the Swedish daily press (2010–2014) of three Francophone authors: Crowther, Taïa, and Thúy. Through a new approach combining concepts like consecrational transfers (Casanova), cultural transfer (Espagne), and ideologic functions (Moura), the analysis reveals Sweden’s efforts to become a consecrating pole. Firstly, while stressing the “difference” as a principal feature of the commented literature, Sweden tries to foreground its own national project to jointly promote diversity, migrancy and cohesion. Secondly, comparing the Francophone literature with its own, Swedish critics manage to consecrate literature from another dominated country. Finally, comparisons with more international references leave space for self-consecration and access to a more dominant position on the market. Thus, the transmitted literature is less at stake than the receiving country’s own image.

    • The discourse marker cachái (‘y’see?’) has in a rather short time span become one of the most frequently used in colloquial Chilean Spanish, especially in the talk of young speakers. Being a recent addition to the language, it is not surprising that the history and use of the marker remain in large part to be described. The etymology which is commonly presented (Real Academia Española, 2014, s.v. cachar), according to which cachar is a loan of the English verb catch, is problematic as it fails to account for the uses attested for cachái in modern Chilean Spanish. The present study adopts a historical pragmatic perspective to track the development of the verb, proposing an alternative origin, namely in the verb catar (‘look (for)’, ‘see’). By contrasting this explanation with authentic, situated, uses of cachái, the study argues that such an origin can account for the uses we see today more adequately and convincingly.

    • The deboning desire: A reading of irony in Farm of Salome by Mauricio KartunIn this paper we analyze Salome de chacra, a play written by the very renowned Argentinian dramatist Mauricio Kartun. We intend to make a reading of this work based on the irony that arises from the oscillation between the piece and other texts. To study the dialogue that the play establishes with other texts we review some of its relations of transtextuality linked in the piece to metathatricality. We argue that Salom de chacra, in its incorporation of the ironic difference based on transtextuality and its relationship with metatheatricality, moves away from a passive reception of the myth and translates it to local circumstances. From this translation and thanks to the author's own poetics, the piece allows an approach to a worldview of Argentina's history and an unmasking of some of its underlying values.

    • The way the theme of the oppressor is inscribed in El lugar perdido by the Argentinian Norma Huidobro is analized based on Angenot´s social discourse theory. It is argued that the social discourse about the oppressor enters El lugar perdido by the discourse of gender. The way in which the discourse of gender is absorbed by the novel and inscribed in it functions as a possible way to humanize the figure of the repressor and, ultimately, as an attempt to understand it in a different way than other social discourses, even aesthetic ones, have done until now.

    • Drawing on Antoine Berman’s theory of translation as a critical act, this article analyzes the Swedish translation of Giovanni Verga's masterpiece I Malavoglia. The actual translation analysis therefore takes as its starting point a pre-analysis that highlights the translator’s individual motives to deviate from the source text. The results show that the Swedish translator has done extensive changes to Verga’s polyphonic novel, giving it a more homogeneous form. Drawing on theoretical ideas on the translator’s unconscious and habitus, the article shows that the translator has downplayed the novel’s expressive and vernacular traits as well as the patriarchal perspectives, emphasizing instead the novel’s religious paths.

    • This paper aims at offering a comparative analysis of the narrator in the novel “I giorni dell’abbandono” (2002) by the Italian writer Elena Ferrante, and the narrator in the cinematographic version of the same work “I giorni dell’abbandono” (2005), directed by Roberto Faenza. The paper focuses on some narrative properties that emerge in Elena Ferrante’s novel “I giorni dell’abbandono”, and compares the literary narrator to the cinematographic narrator in Roberto Faenza’s movie “I giorni dell’abbandono”. Furthermore, the paper discusses different narrative strategies as used in these two different media, literary text and cinematographic work.

    • This article deals with a comparison between Matilde Serao’s short story “Checchina’s Virtue” ( 1884 ) and the homonymous unpublished theatrical script written by Massimo Franciosa ( 1995 ), of which a summary is provided. The comparison between the source text and the adaptation draws on the debate about the narrativity of drama in which many scholars have engaged in the last decades: Richardson (1987) , Chatman (1990) , Jahn (2001) , Fludernik (2008) and Nünning & Sommer (2008) . The analysis focuses on two forms of diegetic narrativity that appear in the short story, i. e. free indirect discourse and the iterative mode, in order to see how the theatrical script deals with them. The analysis shows that the script preserves the narrative contents of the source text and highlights how diegetic and mimetic narrativity collaborate to the reworking and redistribution of those contents.
