  • Towards a shared image. Supervision in artistic research as acts of collaborative knowledge creation
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Acts of creation. Thoughts on artistic research supervision. - 9789187483165 ; , s. 73-89
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This chapter departs from the question: How can the supervision of artistic research in music influence and promote agency for PhD candidates? Supervision is seen in the context of on-going institutional change and discussed as encompassing the following aspects: (i) making the candidate pass, (ii) conducting artistic collaborations, (iii) evaluating artistic development and quality, and (iv) creating a safety zone. It is suggested that supervision can be a dynamic meeting point for the combination of these aspects and result in collaborative knowledge creation. This is a long-term, collective process that both requires and results in individual growth, group development and a continuous rethinking of institutional self-image.

  • Modelling internal nitridation in an alumina-forming austenitic stainless steel
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Materials and corrosion - Werkstoffe und Korrosion. - : Wiley. - 0947-5117 .- 1521-4176. ; 68:2, s. 143-150
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • An austenitic alumina forming stainless steel was exposed in a nitriding atmosphere comprising 5 vol% H2/N2 for 100 and 1000 h. After 100 h, the sample displayed aluminium nitrides down to 450 μm and chromium nitrides down to 200 μm. Thermodynamic equilibrium calculations and kinetic modelling of the system to simulate 100 h of exposure time were performed using the software ThermoCalc 4.1 including DICTRA. The order of appearance of nitrides in the sample starting from the surface can be understood from the thermodynamic equilibria as well as from results of kinetic modelling. However, the nitridation depth predicted by the kinetic modelling, was larger than experimentally observed, and the cubic chromium nitride predicted to be present on the surface was not detected in the exposed sample. One difference between model and experiment was a thin oxide layer present on the surface of the sample. As this oxide layer can decrease the inwards flux of nitrogen, attempts were made to describe the effects of this layer in the model. The model was also used for qualitative comparison of varying alloy compositions, temperatures and initial nitrogen contents of the matrix.

  • No association between low-dose aspirin use and breast cancer outcomes overall : a Swedish population-based study
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Breast Cancer Research. - : BioMed Central. - 1465-5411 .- 1465-542X. ; 20
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Results from previous studies indicate that use of low-dose aspirin may improve breast cancer prognosis. We evaluated aspirin use and breast cancer outcomes in relation to clinical characteristics as well as dose and duration of aspirin use. Methods: We used information from the Regional Breast Cancer Quality-of-Care Registries in three Swedish regions to identify 21,414 women diagnosed with a first stage I-III breast cancer between 1 April 2006 and 31 December 2012. The cohort was further linked to nationwide registers to retrieve information about dispensing low-dose aspirin before and after breast cancer diagnosis, comorbidity and causes of death. In a separate analysis, we investigated time to breast cancer death among 621 women with stage IV disease at diagnosis. Associations were evaluated using a multivariable Cox proportional hazards model. Results: Among women with stage I-III breast cancer, 2660 (12.4%) used low-dose aspirin shortly before breast cancer diagnosis and 4091 (19.1%) were users during follow-up. Women were followed for a median of 3.8years after diagnosis. There was no association between aspirin use and breast cancer-specific death in multivariable analyses (use before diagnosis: hazard ratio (HR) 0.93, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.77-1.12; use after diagnosis: HR 1.00, 95% CI 0.74-1.37). Similarly, aspirin use was not associated with risk of first recurrence/metastases in a subgroup of stage I-III breast cancer patients (HR 0.97, 95% CI 0.86-1.10). However, in analyses stratified by stage, an inverse association between low-dose aspirin use after diagnosis and breast cancer death was found for women with stage I tumors (HR 0.53, 95% CI 0.29-0.96). Among women with stage IV disease at diagnosis, aspirin use was not associated with time to breast cancer death (HR 0.91, 95% CI 0.67-1.23).Conclusion: In this large population-based cohort study there was no evidence that low-dose aspirin use before or after breast cancer diagnosis is associated with a reduced risk of adverse outcomes overall in breast cancer. However, a potential benefit was noted among women with stage I tumors, warranting further investigation.

  • Characterisation of EBM-built shelled samples of Ti6Al4V compacted by HIP
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: World PM 2016 Congress and Exhibition. - : European Powder Metallurgy Association (EPMA). - 9781899072484
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Compaction of additively manufactured Ti6Al4V components by Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) is often applied to eliminate porosity, producing fully dense material. In the present work shelled samples produced by Electron Beam Melting with the Arcam process (EBM) were compacted by HIP to produce fully dense samples. Cylindrical samples were studied. The walls of the cylinders were built with EBM, and the powder from the process was left uncompacted inside the cylinders. Samples with different wall thicknesses were produced. The samples were thereafter subjected to a HIP compaction. The critical wall thicknesses needed for compaction were evaluated, and the microstructures characterized. The results show that fully dense samples, with very fine microstructures, are possible.

  • Precipitation in Microalloyed Steel by Model Alloy Experiments and Thermodynamic Calculations
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Metallurgical and Materials Transactions. A. - : Springer Boston. - 1073-5623 .- 1543-1940. ; 47:10, s. 4806-4817
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Precipitation in microalloyed steel has been studied by applying thermodynamic calculations based on a description of the Gibbs energies of the individual phases over the full multicomponent composition range. To validate and improve the thermodynamic description, new experimental investigations of the phase separation in the cubic carbides/nitrides/carbonitrides in alloys containing Nb, V, Mo, and Cr, have been performed. Model alloys were designed to obtain equilibrium carbides/carbonitrides that are sufficiently large for measurements of compositions, making it possible to study the partitioning of the elements into different precipitates, showing distinctly different composition sets. The reliability of the calculations, when applied to multicomponent alloys, was tested by comparing with published experimental studies of precipitation in microalloyed steel. It is shown that thermodynamic calculations accurately describe the observed precipitation sequences. Further, they can reproduce several important features of precipitation processes in microalloyed steel such as the partitioning of Mo between matrix and precipitates and the variation of precipitate compositions depending on precipitation temperature.

  • Studies of oxide reduction during sintering of Cr alloyed PM steel by coupled experimental and diffusion simulations
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: World PM 2016 Congress and Exhibition. - : European Powder Metallurgy Association (EPMA). - 9781899072484
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Oxide reduction in Cr alloyed PM steel has been simulated experimentally by measuring the oxygen loss from powders when exposed to a heating cycle, by photo acoustic spectroscopy (PAS) and by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Pressed samples were heated in dry hydrogen gas using a defined, slow, heating rate up to 1300oC. The oxides in the powder are reduced by the hydrogen gas. From the PAS curves distinct reduction temperatures are observed, that can be correlated to the type of oxide by comparing with thermodynamic calculations of the oxide stabilities. The experimental results were analyzed by diffusion simulations that involve a description of the diffusion controlled oxide reduction. It is shown how the calculated rate of oxygen diffusion in the samples, compared with the experimental results, has been applied as a tool for increased understanding of the reduction during sintering.

  • Microchip screening Platform for single cell assessment of NK cell cytotoxicity
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Frontiers in Immunology. - : FRONTIERS MEDIA SA. - 1664-3224. ; 7
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Here, we report a screening platform for assessment of the cytotoxic potential of individual natural killer (NK) cells within larger populations. Human primary NK cells were distributed across a silicon-glass microchip containing 32,400 individual microwells loaded with target cells. Through fluorescence screening and automated image analysis, the numbers of NK and live or dead target cells in each well could be assessed at different time points after initial mixing. Cytotoxicity was also studied by time-lapse live-cell imaging in microwells quantifying the killing potential of individual NK cells. Although most resting NK cells (approximate to 75%) were non-cytotoxic against the leukemia cell line K562, some NK cells were able to kill several (>= 3) target cells within the 12-h long experiment. In addition, the screening approach was adapted to increase the chance to find and evaluate serial killing NK cells. Even if the cytotoxic potential varied between donors, it was evident that a small fraction of highly cytotoxic NK cells were responsible for a substantial portion of the killing. We demonstrate multiple assays where our platform can be used to enumerate and characterize cytotoxic cells, such as NK or T cells. This approach could find use in clinical applications, e.g., in the selection of donors for stem cell transplantation or generation of highly specific and cytotoxic cells for adoptive immunotherapy.
