  • Effects of fucosylated milk of goat and mouse on Helicobacter pylori binding to Lewis b antigen
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: World Journal of Gastroenterology. - Beijing : WJG Press. - 1007-9327 .- 2219-2840. ; 10:14, s. 2063-2066
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Aim:To evaluate the effects of animal milk containing fucosylated antigens on Helicobacter pylori (H pylon) binding to Lewis b antigen. Methods:A mammary gland expression vector containing human α1-3/4-fucosyltransferase cDNA sequences was constructed. Transient expression of human(α1-3/4-fucosyltransferase cDNA in goat mammary cell and establishment of transgenic mice were performed. The adhesion inhibitory properties of milk samples were analyzed by using Hpylori. Results: Goat milk samples were found to inhibit bacterial binding to Lewis b antigen. The highest inhibition was observed 42 h after injection of the plasmid. The binding activity of Hpylori to Lewis b antigen reduced mostly, by 83%, however milk samples from transgenic mice did not inhibit Hpylori binding to Lewis b antigen. Conclusion: The use of “humanized“ animal milk produced by the transgenic introduction of fucosylated antigen can perhaps provide an alternative therapy and preventive measure for Hpylori infection.

  • Primary sources of selected POPs : regional and global scale emission inventories
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Environmental Pollution. - : Elsevier. - 0269-7491 .- 1873-6424. ; 128:1-2, s. 3-16
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • During the last decade, a number of studies have been devoted to the sources and emissions of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) at regional and global scales. While significant improvements in knowledge have been achieved for some pesticides, the quantitative understanding of the emission processes and emission patterns for "non-pesticide" POPs are still considered limited. The key issues remaining for the non-pesticide POPs are in part determined by their general source classification. For industrial chemicals, such as the polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), there is considerable uncertainty with respect to the relative importance of atmospheric emissions from various source categories. For PCBs, temperature is discussed as a potential key factor influencing atmospheric emission levels and patterns. When it comes to the unintentional by-products of combustion and industrial processes (PCDD/Fs), there is still a large uncertainty with respect to the relative contribution of emissions from unregulated sources such as backyard barrel burning that requires further consideration and characterisation. For hexachlorobenzene (HCB), the relative importance of primary and secondary atmospheric emissions in controlling current atmospheric concentrations remains one of the key uncertainties. While these and other issues may remain unresolved, knowledge concerning the emissions of POPs is a prerequisite for any attempt to understand and predict the distribution and fate of these chemicals on a regional and global scale as well as to efficiently minimise future environmental burdens.

  • Synthesis and properties of a new donor model compound for PSII
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Gaodeng xuéxiào huàxué xuébào. - 0251-0790. ; 25:9, s. 1666-1672
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • As a model compound for redox components on the donor side of photosystem II (PS II) in green plants, a supramolecular complex 2 was synthesized and characterized. In this complex, two {[(2-hydroxy-3-(morpholin-4-ylmethyl)-5-tert-butyl-benzyl)(pyridyl-2-methyl)amino]methyl} arms are linked to the ortho-positions of a phenol which is expected covalently to be linked to Ru(II) tris-bipyridine through an amide bond. The arms on the substituted-phenol can coordinate two Mn(III) ions. The structure of complex 2 was confirmed by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) and 2D-NMR (gCOSY, HSQC and HMBC). Its photochemical and electrochemical properties were studied. The results showed that the MLCT band of the compound was red-shifted compared to that of [Ru(byp)(3)](2+) and the luminescence quantum yield was enhanced. In addition, the oxidation potential of ruthenium was higher than the phenol(+)/phenol and Mn(III, IV)/Mn(III) which was consisted with the electron transfer sequence of the donor side of PS II in nature. All these showed that this compound was a good model to mimic the donor side of PS II.
