  • Crystal electric field splitting and f -electron hybridization in heavy-fermion CePt2In7
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Physical Review B. - : AMER PHYSICAL SOC. - 2469-9969 .- 2469-9950. ; 100:8
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We use high-resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy to investigate the electronic structure of the antiferromagnetic heavy fermion compound CePt2In7, which is a member of the CeIn3-derived heavy fermion material family. Weak hybridization among 4f electron states and conduction bands was identified in CePt2In7 at low temperature much weaker than that in the other heavy fermion compounds like CeIrIn5 and CeRhIn5. The Ce 4f spectrum shows fine structures near the Fermi energy, reflecting the crystal electric field splitting of the 4f5/21 and 4f7/21 states. Also, we find that the Fermi surface has a strongly three-dimensional topology, in agreement with density-functional theory calculations.  © 2019 American Physical Society.

  • Development and Evaluation of an Ensemble-Based Data Assimilation System for Regional Reanalysis Over the Tibetan Plateau and Surrounding Regions
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Journal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems. - 1942-2466. ; 11:8, s. 2503-2522
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Tibetan Plateau is regarded as the Earth's Third Pole, which is the source region of several major rivers that impact more 20% the world population. This high‐altitude region is reported to have been undergoing much greater rate of weather changes under global warming, but the existing reanalysis products are inadequate for depicting the state of the atmosphere, particularly with regard to the amount of precipitation and its diurnal cycle. An ensemble Kalman filter (EnKF) data assimilation system based on the limited‐area Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model was evaluated for use in developing a regional reanalysis over the Tibetan Plateau and the surrounding regions. A 3‐month prototype reanalysis over the summer months (June−August) of 2015 using WRF‐EnKF at a 30‐km grid spacing to assimilate nonradiance observations from the Global Telecommunications System was developed and evaluated against independent sounding and satellite observations in comparison to the ERA‐Interim and fifth European Centre for Medium‐Range Weather Forecasts Reanalysis (ERA5) global reanalysis. Results showed that both the posterior analysis and the subsequent 6‐ to 12‐hr WRF forecasts of the prototype regional reanalysis compared favorably with independent sounding observations, satellite‐based precipitation versus those from ERA‐Interim and ERA5 during the same period. In particular, the prototype regional reanalysis had clear advantages over the global reanalyses of ERA‐Interim and ERA5 in the analysis accuracy of atmospheric humidity, as well as in the subsequent downscale‐simulated precipitation intensity, spatial distribution, diurnal evolution, and extreme occurrence.

  • Fiber Integrated Wavelength Converter Based on a Silicon Core Fiber With a Nano-Spike Coupler
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: IEEE Photonics Technology Letters. - : IEEE-INST ELECTRICAL ELECTRONICS ENGINEERS INC. - 1041-1135 .- 1941-0174. ; 31:19, s. 1561-1564
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • An all-fiber integrated nonlinear silicon photonic wavelength converter has been proposed and fabricated using the silicon core fiber platform. The silicon fiber was spliced directly to a conventional single mode fiber, facilitated via an inverse tapered nano-spike that helped to reduce the mode mismatch between the different core materials. Four-wave mixing-based wavelength conversion with an efficiency as high as -22.1 dB has been achieved for selected wavelengths across the C-band in a device length of only similar to 1 cm. Successful conversion of quadrature phase-shift keying signals at a 20-Gb/s bitrate, with a 1 to 2 dB penalty level at the bit error ratio (BER) = 3.8 x 10(-3), was used to demonstrate the suitability of the silicon fiber device for the construction of ultra-compact, all-fiber-based optical signal processing systems.

  • Oculo-zygomatic nerve transfer for facial synkinesis : An anatomical feasibility study
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Microsurgery. - : Wiley. - 0738-1085 .- 1098-2752. ; 37:7, s. 629-633
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • BACKGROUND: Patients with severe oro-ocular synkinesis often present with concomitant inefficient smile excursion on the affected site. In theory, oculo-zygomatic nerve transfer may decrease synkinesis and improve smile by redirecting nerve fibers to their target muscle. The aim of this study was to explore the feasibility of nerve transfer in human cadavers between a caudal branch innervating the orbicularis oculi to a cephalad branch innervating the zygomaticus major muscles.METHODS: Eighteen hemi-faces were dissected. Reach for direct coaptation of a caudal nerve branch innervating the orbicularis oculi muscle to a cephalad nerve branch innervating the zygomaticus major muscle was assessed. Measurements included total number of nerve branches as well as maximum dissection length. Nerve samples were taken from both branches at the site of coaptation and histomorphometric analysis for axonal count was performed.RESULTS: The number of sub-branches to the orbicularis oculi muscle was 3.1 ± 1.0 and to the zygomaticus major muscle 4.7 ± 1.2. The maximal length of dissection of the caudal nerve branch to the orbicularis oculi muscle was 28.3 ± 7.3 mm and for the cranial nerve branch to the zygomaticus major muscle 23.8 ± 6.5 mm. Transection and tension-free coaptation was possible in all cases but one. The average myelinated fiber counts per mm2 was of 5,173 ± 2,293 for the caudal orbicularis oculi branch and 5,256 ± 1,774 for the cephalad zygomaticus major branch.CONCLUSION: Oculo-zygomatic nerve transfer is an anatomically feasible procedure. The clinical value of this procedure, however, remains to be proven.

  • Negligible-Pb-Waste and Upscalable Perovskite Deposition Technology for High-Operational-Stability Perovskite Solar Modules
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Advanced Energy Materials. - : Wiley-VCH Verlagsgesellschaft. - 1614-6832 .- 1614-6840. ; 9:13
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • An upscalable perovskite film deposition method combining raster ultrasonic spray coating and chemical vapor deposition is reported. This method overcomes the coating size limitation of the existing stationary spray, single-pass spray, and spin-coating methods. In contrast with the spin-coating method (>90% Pb waste), negligible Pb waste during PbI2 deposition makes this method more environmentally friendly. Outstanding film uniformity across the entire area of 5 cm x 5 cm is confirmed by both large-area compatible characterization methods (electroluminescence and scattered light imaging) and local characterization methods (atomic force microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, photoluminescence mapping, UV-vis, and X-ray diffraction measurements on multiple sample locations), resulting in low solar cell performance decrease upon increasing device area. With the FAPb(I0.85Br0.15)(3) (FA = formamidinium) perovskite layer deposited by this method, champion solar modules show a power conversion efficiency of 14.7% on an active area of 12.0 cm(2) and an outstanding shelf stability (only 3.6% relative power conversion efficiency decay after 3600 h aging). Under continuous operation (1 sun light illumination, maximum power point condition, dry N-2 atmosphere with <5% relative humidity, no encapsulation), the devices show high light-soaking stability corresponding to an average T-80 lifetime of 535 h on the small-area solar cells and 388 h on the solar module.

  • Large area surface-emitting photonic crystal quantum cascade laser
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Optics InfoBase Conference Papers. - : OSA - The Optical Society.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Quantum cascade lasers (QCLs) are the sources of choice for many laser-based applications in the mid-infrared region. Because of the unique 2D in-plane coupling mechanism, a photonic crystal (PhC)QCL [1] has superior advantages on mode selection, surface emission, and beam control. In this work, we present a large-area (1.5 mm × 1.5 mm) PhC-QCL operating under pulsed mode at room temperature (289 K). The surface-emitting peak power is as high as 1 W.
