  • Detection and mitigation of deception attacks on cloud-based industrial control systems
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: 25th Conference on Innovation in Clouds, Internet and Networks (ICIN). - 9781728186887
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In recent years, because the cloud can provide huge advantages regarding storage and computing resources, industry has been motivated to move industrial control systems to the cloud. However, the cloud also introduces major security challenges, since moving control systems to the cloud can enable attackers to infiltrate the system and establish an attack that can lead to damages and disruptions with potentially catastrophic consequences. Therefore, intrusion detection and mitigation mechanisms are crucial for cloud-based industrial control systems. In this paper, we propose a method for detection and mitigation of deception attacks on actuator signals in cloud-based industrial control systems. We validate our solution on a real testbed and evaluate its capability by subjecting it to a set of attacks. Our proposed solution can detect the attack in a timely manner and keep the plant stable, with an acceptable performance during the attack.

  • Dynamic Federations for 6G Cell-Free Networking: Concepts and Terminology
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: 23rd International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communication (SPAWC). - 9781665494557 - 9781665494564
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Cell-Free networking is one of the prime candidatesfor 6G networks. Despite being capable of providing the 6Gneeds, practical limitations and considerations are often neglectedin current research. In this work, we introduce the conceptof federations to dynamically scale and select the best set ofresources, e.g., antennas, computing and data resources, to servea given application. Next to communication, 6G systems are expected to provide also wireless powering, positioning and sensing, further increasing the complexity of such systems. Therefore, each federation is self-managing and is distributed over thearea in a cell-free manner. Next to the dynamic federations, new accompanying terminology is proposed to design cell-freesystems taking into account practical limitations such as timesynchronization and distributed processing. We conclude withan illustration with four federations, serving distinct applications, and introduce two new testbeds to study these architectures andconcepts.

  • Prediction and exposure of delays from a base station perspective in 5G and beyond networks
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: 5G-MeMU 2022 - Proceedings of the ACM SIGCOMM 2022 Workshop on 5G and Beyond Network Measurements, Modeling, and Use Cases - Part of SIGCOMM 2022. - New York, NY, USA : Association for Computing Machinery, Inc. - 9781450393935 ; , s. 8-14
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The inherent flexibility of 5G networks come with a high degree of configuration and management complexity. This makes the performance outcome for UEs, more than ever, dependent on intricate configurations and interplay between algorithms at various network components. In this paper, we take initial steps towards a performance exposure system at the base station using a data-driven approach for predicting performance violations in terms of RTT, as observed by the UE, in a 5G mmWave network. We present ML models to predict RTT using low-level and high-frequency base station metrics from a 5G mmWave testbed based on commercially available equipment. Predicting UE performance from a base station perspective, and exposing this knowledge, is valuable for applications to proactively address performance violations. We also compare several methods for feature reduction, which have a significant impact on monitoring load. We demonstrate our model's ability to identify RTT violations, paving the way for network providers towards an intelligent performance exposure system.

  • The 6G Computing Continuum (6GCC) : Meeting the 6G computing challenges
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: 2022 1st International Conference on 6G Networking, 6GNet 2022. - : IEEE Computer Society. - 9781665467636
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • 6G systems, such as Large Intelligent Surfaces, will require distributed, complex, and coordinated decisions through-out a very heterogeneous and cell free infrastructure. This will require a fundamentally redesigned software infrastructure accompanied by massively distributed and heterogeneous computing resources, vastly different from current wireless networks. To address these challenges, in this paper, we propose and motivate the concept of a 6G Computing Continuum (6GCC) and two research testbeds, to advance the rate and quality of research. 6G Computing Continuum is an end-to-end compute and software platform for realizing large intelligent surfaces and its tenant users and applications. One for addressing the challenges or orchestrating shared computational resources in the wireless domain, implemented on a Large Intelligent Surfaces testbed. Another simulation-based testbed is intended to address scalability and global-scale orchestration challenges.
