- These lines are a recognition of Nadine Gordimer's and the Swedish writer Sara Lidman's life-long friendship that began in 1960 with Lidman visiting Johannesburg. Lidman's novel, Jag och min son ('I and My Son') based on her time in apartheid's South Africa, its complex thematics of guilt and fury, bears Gordimer's signature.
