Oral public health lectures in masters of public health (MPH) course at a university in north Sweden

• More and more integration is where global health is heading and is a fact that is supported by initiatives to address interprofessional education. In the university of Umeå, from 2008 to 2013, an oral public health lecture has been given to master of public health students in their global public health course. The MPH education of this university has been ranked first in the country. A total of 300 students have taken this course during these six years, out of which only 10 were dental graduates. This two-hour lecture is a part of global public health course that introduces the two years master’s education to the students. The oral health lectures inform about what is oral public health, why is it a public health problem and the prevention and promotion strategies aimed at being very comprehensive as is targeting the non dental professionals. The course evaluation by students undertaken at the end of each course over the time has reported this lecture to be unexpected but very informative. Overall, more than 80% students express they benefitted from the information received. The short introductory lecture and the small effort is an example of addressing interprofessional education efforts and being inclusive in addressing the global health education and training.
