Bakk or bakvörður ‒ on loans and induced linguistic innovations in Icelandic football lexis

• The article discusses changes in the Icelandic football lexis, partly as an exponent of the well-known Icelandic linguistic purism, but not the least in its own rights. The article draws on earlier works on anglicisms and football lexis, and the main results indicates, as expected, that the Icelandic football lexis is less prone to include anglicisms than the compared languages. There are some indications though, that there might be slightly more anglicims in the oral language, but this cannot be concluded since the investigation is conducted on the written language.
