  • In this book concrete facts are presented about the struggle for national liberation and development in the small West African peasant country, an independent republic since September, 1973. The focus of the book is upon the new society under construction in the liberated areas of the country, while the armed struggle against the Portuguese colonial army was still going on. The book takes account of the dramatic changes in Portugal and her former African possessions that occurred in 1974, including Portuguese recognition and United Nations membership of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau.
