According to legend, Sigfridus was a British archbishop and one of the earliest missionaries to Sweden, active c. 1000 in southern Sweden. He came to be celebrated as a holy bishop and confessor. The oldest office (officium vetus) for St. Sigfrid, the 13th-century prose office Celebremus karissimi, seemingly the earliest complete office for a Swedish saint, is transcribed from codices and fragments from the 13th through 16th centuries. A commentary about the influences for this old office, its musical and poetic style. The chants would have contributed to the image of the saint by re-using model melodies and/or text passages from other saints’ offices (saints James and Gregory). S:t Sigfrid var enligt legenden en av de tidiga missionärerna i Sverige, den engelske biskop som döpte Olof Skötkonung och var verksam inom Växjö stifts område. Han vördades under medeltiden i hela landet som helig biskop och bekännare. Det tidiga helgonofficiet (hystorian) till honom, Celebremus karissimi, är troligen från början av 1200-talet och ett av de tidigaste i genren som tillkommit i Sverige. Editionen innehåller transkriptioner av sångerna för tidegärden, gjorda på grundval av handskriftskällor från 1200- till 1500-talet, samt kommentarer om hystorian och dess tradering, relationen text-musik, melodilån från t.ex. S:t Jakobs och S:t Gregorius' officier; översättningar av sångtexter till svenska. Appendix ger melodier till sekvens och alleluiavers. Summary på engelska s. 139-148.
