- It is proposed that by the Bronze Age we see for the first time in European history the formation or larger cultural-and perhaps-ethnic traditions that were to remain a distinctive feature of later history. However, they are made up by a complex set of identities that formed national, international and local polities. Possible ethnic identities are in this way linked to political institutions with different roles in Bronze Age societies.
