- Land use and greenhouse gas emissions mustbe considered of critical importance in anylong-term assessment of the global food system. There are upcoming factors related to this whichare likely to contribute to long-run changes inthe structure of global food demand in relationto the current mainstream forecasts. It is here arguedthat the projections of food demand mightneed to be revised with these factors being takeninto account.
